Ok so we all have some form of pest in our gardens. The best way to reduce the damage caused is to do some preventative maintenance.
Types of Critters
there are various forms of pest that can devistate your garden but in this blog Im mainly talking about little furry critters that multiply very quickly...Yes rabbits! We had such an issue last year and no matter how much I tried to detour them from my garden they kept wiping out some of my main crops. I tried row cover, planting established seedlings instead of direct sowing. I even tried the shiny objects and banging and clanging of wind chimes and pans. they were not phased at all.
Where are they coming from?
We built on a deck last year and had good intentions of putting a surround along the bottom part to prevent anything from making a home under there. But guess what? Life got busy and we didn't get anything build. We found that a family of bunnies were living under there. Not to mention under most of my hosta plants and all over the yard.
Now that it is fall we are going to get a jump start on detouring these little fellers so they can find home somewhere else.
How we did it
We had chicken wire left from and older project so we attached it to the bottom of the deck with staples and them we left a bit of a lip so that way it could be laid under the gravel. We are hoping this will be enough to discourage them from building a home.
Hope for the best, expect the worst
This is one of my husbands favorite sayings. I am in hopes that this will prevent them from building a home, I am expecting them to just move closer to my garden which is a battle I will have to fight again come spring. But that is ok im willing to fight the good fight.
